Who may apply for a national visa
National (long-stay) visas are issued for stays of duration of more than 90 days. A third country national may be granted a national visa:
1. on the basis of a granted residence permit; 2. for the purpose of submitting a residence permit application in the Slovak Republic (employment, temporary employment, study, family reunification); 3. If the applicant is older than 15 years and has been accepted for language education at a language school (List of Slovak language schools) with a minimum of 25 lessons per week; 4. If it is in the interest of the Slovak Republic; 5. If it is necessary in order to fulfill the obligations of the Slovak Republic following from international treaties; 6. If the applicant is a family member of a foreigner who has been granted asylum or subsidiary protection.

The photo must fulfill the norm specified by the ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization).
Photo Size
The photo for each visa applicant submitted must measure:
From the date of receipt of the application at the Embassy of Slovakia, it takes 30 working days to process the visa application. The duration of days when the application is in transit between the Visa Application Centre and the Embassy are not counted.
